A new study from the Russian Centre for Drug Research (CDRR) shows that one in ten women suffers from erectile dysfunction (ED), a condition that can cause significant distress for those affected.
Dr. Ivan Meurkin, head of drug research at the Centre for Drug Research, says the study is a good sign that ‘a lot of women in the world are suffering because of it’.
“If you think about it, we just really have to think of ED as a problem,” he said.
The research found that around 5% of the women suffering from erectile dysfunction in the study had a problem of impotence.
The study, published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, looked at how menopause affects women and women’s fertility.
The women in the study had a mean age of 35 years and a standard deviation of around 3.6 years, according to the study authors. The women in the study were mainly suffering from low testosterone levels.
